Budding authors in the form of 30 North Mahaska students from third graders to juniors, attended the Young Writer’s Conference hosted by the Great Prairies Area Education Association (GPAEA) on Tuesday, March 6 and Wednesday, March 7, held on the campus of William Penn University in Oskaloosa. NM writers participated in a variety of writing workshops from calligraphy to scary stories, from broadcasting to poetry. “I like the sharing session because you got to hear other peoples stories,” stated one participant. Another aspect of the day occurred in small groups, when students shared their own, personal piece of writing with their peers, and received positive and honest feedback. This is the largest group in recent memory to attend the conference and was chaperoned by Mrs. Shawna Goemaat, Mrs. Kate Hite, Mrs. Kelli Jordan, and Mrs. Shayla Schilling. Look for these authors’ names on future bestsellers lists!
