On Tuesday, March 13, 2018, two seniors, Bailee Fogle and Hannah Thompson, and six juniors, Ali Edmundson,Katy Goemaat,Adam Lobberecht,Crissy Northcutt,Morgan Sampson, and Phillip Spoelstra were inducted into North Mahaska’s National Honor Society. These inductees join seven current members. Co-advisor Mrs. Kate Hite opened the ceremony, followed by current members explaining the symbolic meaning of the candles. Ms. Rachel Martin, co-advisor, lead the inductees in the NHS pledge. Principal Mr. Doug Ray presented certificates to the new inductees. Thanks to Mr. Steve Ehret, Mr. Roger Gay, and Mr. Kevin Kelderman for helping serve refreshments post-ceremony.
Students are selected for NHS based on their 3.25 GPA (minimum) as well as strength in the areas of service, character, and leadership. Some of the activities NM’s NHS have and will serve this school year include assisting at the elementary walk-a-thon and grandfriends’ day, hosting the junior high dance, helping with the preschool fun night, and hosting their annual blood drive, which will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 18 in the elementary gym.
