Literacy Support

K-3rd Grade: Title I Reading services are offered to K-3 students who qualify.  Data used to determine potential eligibility include:  Iowa Assessments, FAST Assessments, Wonders Assessments, other classroom assessments, and teacher recommendation.  Our goal is to help each child progress in their reading skills so they are at or above grade level.  Each child receives 20-30 minutes of daily instruction in reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, decoding, phonemic/phonological awareness, and/or test-taking strategies.  The groups served are small, and the instruction is targeted toward each student’s specific needs.

4-6th Grade: Intervention time set aside for students in grades 4-6 who demonstrate a need for support in their reading skills as well.  Students may move in and out of intervention groups as needed.  Needs are assessed through Iowa Assessments, FAST Assessments, Wonders Assessments, other classroom assessments, and teacher recommendation.  Group sizes and instructional time vary based on students’ needs.  Progress is monitored and instruction is targeted toward each student’s specific needs.

Jr./Sr. High School: Interventions are offered during Success Period at the Junior High and High School to meet students’ needs.  Data used to determine placement in these interventions include Iowa Assessments, MAP Assessments, classroom assessments, and teacher recommendation.  A variety of interventions are offered to meet students’ specific needs, including decoding and reading comprehension.  Each student receives 30 minutes of targeted instruction daily.  The groups served are small to ensure each students’ specific needs are met.
