Spanish Foreign Language

Secondary School Foreign Language Department

Our Mission

As part of cultural development, North Mahaska students are offered a course in Spanish. They are provided a positive learning environment in which to communicate while learning about different cultures in Spanish speaking countries. Learning a new language can be challenging so students are encouraged to participate in a variety of speaking activities as they become global citizens together. Spanish students can find extra support online with grammar essentials or meet with their Spanish instructor before or after school.

Elizabeth Burns

Elizabeth Burns has spent eight years teaching high school Spanish in Florida, South Dakota and Missouri. Burns, a native of Jefferson City, Mo., moved to the area with her husband Jay, who is an assistant football coach at William Penn University. When she’s not teaching or cheering on her husband’s team, the University of Missouri-Kansas City grad boldly cheers on the Kansas City Chiefs. She also enjoys traveling and reading.
