North Mahaska’s baseball team finished the past week with a split in South Iowa Cedar League play and a nonconference win. On Wednesday, NM defeated Colfax-Mingo on the road 10-4 then lost a 6-2 decision to Lynnville-Sully Friday. Saturday afternoon the Warhawks traveled to Twin cedars and picked up an 11-5 win. The Warhawks improve to 13-5 overall and 9-4 in SICL play.
North Mahaska used five doubles and drove in eight runs in the win. Dylan Klinker hit two of them for two RBIs. Jayden Stout hit a single and double to drive in two runs. Sam Terpstra stroked two singles and a double for another RBI and Jaydyn Steil hit a single and double with an RBI.
Blake Readshaw picked up the mound win. He struck out nine and walked seven while yielding four hits.
On Friday North Mahaska hosted league-leader Lynnville-Sully. NM held and early 1-0 lead and doubled to 2-1 after five. L-S exploded for five runs on the sixth to capture the win.
North Mahaska was limited to four hits with Klinker cracking a single and double. Grant Smith hit two singles and accounted for both of the Warhawk runs.
Ty Kelderman went five innings yielding four runs on four hits and two walks. He struck out five. Nash Smith tossed a third of an inning allowing two runs, a walk and two hits. Stout finished up with a hit, walk, and hit batsman.
Saturday North Mahaska ventured to Bussey to take on the Sabers. The Warhawks jumped on TC with a run in the first and three in the second for the 4-0 lead. TC cut the lead in half with single runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. Each team scored twice in the fifth, but NM added two in the sixth and three in the seventh to outdistance the hosts.
Nash Smith hit a triple and drove in two runs and Klinker hit four singles to drive in three more to lead the hitting. Steil hit the team’s lone double. The Warhawks did damage on the bases successfully stealing seven-of-seven bases. Readshaw swiped three of them.
Dodge Duke earned the win from the mound allowing two runs on two hits and five walks with three strikeouts. Nash Smith threw 2 1/3 innings allowing three runs on three hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Steil went one inning striking out one and allowing a hit.
North Mahaska (13-5, 9-4) plays four games in five days. NM hosts Montezuma Monday, then heads to BGM Wednesday, and closes out the week with home games against English Valleys Thursday and HLV Friday. All games at 6 p.m. starts.
