North Mahaska split in a pair of South Iowa Cedar League games falling to Colfax-Mingo 5-1 and beating English Valleys 3-0. Colfax-Mingo broke 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth and seventh innings while holding the host Warhawks in check.
CM got on the board first in the top of the third inning when Abigayle Rawlins hit a one-out single and stole second. With two out, CM pitcher Kylie Doty stroked a single to right field and Rawlins raced home. The Tigerhawks threatened with runners at first and second when North Mahaska’s Morgan Hudson struck out one of her seven batters.
In the North Mahaska half of the inning, Regan Grewe hit a one-out single., stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Similar to the Tigerhawk half of the inning, Hudson singled to tie the game when Grewe scored.
Doty hit three doubles to drive in four of Colfax-Mingo’s five runs. She also hit a single. From the circle, she gave up a run on four hits, three walks and five strikeouts.
Grewe and Hudson each hit two singles for the Warhawks.
Hudson gave up four earned runs on 12 hits and walk.
Through four innings North Mahaska and English Valleys remained scoreless. NM tallied on in the fifth and two in the sixth to earn a 3-0 victory.
English Valleys (9-6) was limited to four singles by Addy Westfall, Gwen Mews, Kaeley Axmear and Libby Armstrong, but none could find their way to home plate. Much of that came from the arm of North Mahaska’s Hudson. She struck out 13 and walked one.
Kennedy Axmear also had a good night from the circle allowing three runs on four hits with a walk, hit batsman and six strikeouts.
Hudson hit a single and double to drive in a run and Zoe Deucore hit a solo homerun to lead North Mahaska.
