North Mahaska was outscored 7-4 in overtime by Lynnville-Sully Friday as the visiting Hawks won 65-62 in a South Iowa Cedar League contest. North Mahaska falls to 3-2 on the season while the Hawks improve to 5-0.
Each team had a big quarter following an 11-11 first period. L-S went on a 23-16 run in the second to lead 34-27 at halftime. North Mahaska came out of the locker room and outscored the Hawks 18-10 to give North Mahaska a 45-44 lead entering the final period. Lynnville-Sully was able to tie the game then win in overtime.
Each team had four players reach double figures in scoring. Lane Harmon led all scorers with 19 points for North Mahaska. Nate Sampson hit for 15 while Nolan
Andersen and Nash Smith each scored 10. Braden Steel finished with six points.
Klayton Van Dyke led Lynnville-Sully with 17 points. Corder Noun Harder had 14, Conner Maston 13 and Dawson James with 10.
The Hawks held a 39-34 rebounding edge while NM held a 5-2 edge in blocks. LS hit seven 3-pointers to North Mahaska’s two. The Hawks shot just 30.8 percent from the foul line hitting 4-of-13. North Mahaska shot 76.2 percent going 16-for-21.
North Mahaska travels to Montezuma Tuesday and plays at Tri-County Friday.
