No. 12 North Mahaska tightened its grip on the South Iowa Cedar League basketball title with a 55-27 win at Keota Tuesday. The Warhawks won even though they his just one 3-pointer and went 4-for-10 at the free throw line.
Keota drained six 3-pointers scoring 18 from the arc. North Mahaska (12-1) forced 22 turnovers including 18 steals.
The start of the game was different than many of the Warhawk games with NM leading 7-6. They outscored Keota 19-5 in the second period to lead 26-11. NM maintained the lead then rolled to a 15-4 run in the final period.
Regan Grewe led North Mahaska with 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sydney Andersen just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Aly Steil added seven points while Breckyn Schilling,
Jessica Castaneda and Kayla Readshaw each scored six. Libby Hargis grabbed eight rebounds.
Keota (4-9) was led in scoring by Grace Conger with eight, Macie McDonald seven and Taylor Garman with six.
North Mahaska hosts Sigourney on Friday.
