North Mahaska took its basketball prowess on the road Monday and scored an 84-68 win over nonconference opponent Chariton. All five starters reached double figures for North Mahaska.
North Mahaska (12-2, 10-1) scored 22 points in three of the four quarters. They doubled up the Chargers in the opening frame 22-11 and extended the advantage to 44-29 at halftime. Chariton won the third period and the Warhawks added 22 more in the final frame.
North Mahaska’s starters each reached double figures in scoring. Two of them also hit double figures in rebounds. North Mahaska shot a blistering 57 percent from the floor including six 3-pointers. NM held a 35-28 rebounding edge and doled out 30 assists to 17 turnovers. Chariton turned the ball over 20 times.
Braden Steel scored 18 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for North Mahaska. Nolan Andersen scored 16 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Nash Smith led NM in scoring with 19, Lane Harmon added 16 and Ethan Huffman had 16. Harmon was credited with eight assists. Smith also had nine assists and eight rebounds.
Chariton was led by Mason Smith 31 points. Oxenreider Brock added 10 and had 10 rebounds.
North Mahaska travels to HLV on Friday.
