North Mahaska found going tough as they travelled to Sully Friday to take on once-beaten Lynnville-Sully. North Mahaska played from behind all game trailing by as many as 10. L-S hit some free throws down the stretch to score the 49-45 win.
North Mahaska shot 39.5 percent from the floor and hit four 3-pointers. Lynnville-Sully hit six long shots including three in a row in the first quarter as the Hawks built a 10-point advantage. NM would cut the lead to five several times but could not gain the momentum to overtake the Hawks.
Nash Smith powered North Mahaska with 17 points and nine rebounds. Braden Steel and Nolan Andersen just missed double digits in scoring with nine apiece. Steel doled out five assists to lead the Warhawks. Lane Harmon scored eight points with two steals, two assists and two blocked shots.
Corder Noun Harder led Lynnville-Sully with 19 points and Connor Maston had 12.
The road does not get easier as North Mahaska has another rivalry game with Montezuma Tuesday.
