Senior night for any event is an exciting time. Many times seniors are playing their final game at home.
Monday night for seniors Drake Hall, Nash Smith and Ben Johannes saw their last home game but it was a junior that provide much of the punch. North Mahaska topped Colfax-Mingo in the regular season finale 10-3.
Nate Sampson did what he could to make senior night special. The junior scored four runs on three hits and drove in two runs. He also had six putouts on defense. Smith added three RBIs and Johannes stroked a single and double to drive in a run.
Smith picked up the win from the mound going 4 innings. He allowed three runs on one hit, walked four and struck out five. Jack Kelderman tossed the final three frames walking three and striking out two.
North Mahaska improved to 13-10 overall. They will head to Moravia to take on Twin Cedars in the opening round of the Class 1A baseball tourney. Game time is 5 p.m.
