Homecoming week tipped off Monday as the North Mahaska Warhawks outlasted BGM to take a 3-0 win over the visiting Bears. NM rolled in set one 25-10 then fought off the Bears 25-22 in set two and took the third set 25-17.
Regan Grewe got the ball rolling with a pair of service aces in set one. She added another in the final service set.
In set two, BGM built an early lead advancing to a 7-3 lead. North Mahaska cut the lead 9-8 but the Bears took advantage of some misplayed balls for a 12-9 lead. Abby Van Weelden tied the set at 12-12 before BGM retook the lead and the teams traded points until NM’s Sydney Andersen’s service ace gave NM a 21-20 lead. Van Weelden served the next point and Libby Hargis served out for the win.
In the final set North Mahaska jumped out to an 18-6 lead and expanded to 21-8. BGM slowly closed the gap to within seven points. Ally Livezey put a hit down that ended the match.
North Mahaska scored seven aces in the match. NM improves to 10-7 on the season while BGM falls to 4-8.
