No. 7 North Mahaska bounced back from its first loss of the season to roll past Colfax-Mingo 53-11 in South Iowa Cedar League play Tuesday. C-M is struggling this season and is 0-7 on the season. North Mahaska lost its first game of the season Monday against PCM.
North Mahaska, (6-1, 5-0) held Colfax-Mingo to single digit scoring in every quarter including only one basket in the first, third and fourth quarters. All players saw action for North Mahaska, which was led by freshman reserve Nataliya Linder with 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Junior guard Breckyn Schilling scored 13 points with nine steals, five assists and a blocked shot. Libby Hargis came off the bench to score seven and Kayla Readshaw added six. Peyton Van Weelden hit for five and Regan Grewe scored five points with five rebounds and two steals. Sydney Andersen grabbed seven rebounds.
Colfax-Mingo turned the ball over 27 times, 20 of those were from NM steals. North Mahaska outrebounded C-M 23-18. The Warhawks shot much better than they did against PCM hitting 30.7 percent from the field. They were 57.8 from the free throw line. The defense held Colfax-Mingo to 17 percent shooting.
Only two Tigerhawk players scored. Katelyn Steenhoek score seven and Grace Allen added four. Allen also recorded a blocked shot.
North Mahaska will host Moravia in a nonconference game Friday. They travel to Belle Plaine on Tuesday and closes out the pre-holiday season at Sigourney on Dec. 21.
