North Mahaska hit deuces scoring in three separate innings Monday en route to a 6-3 baseball victory over Keota. North Mahaska (5-5) took advantage of seven stolen bases to provide additional scoring opportunities.
Each team recorded seven hits in the contest. Senior Nates Sampson hit two singles and a double to drive in two runs and stole two bases. Junior Lucas Nunnikhoven and sophomore Tyson Ferguson hit RBI singles.
Jack Kelderman picked up the mound win going the distance allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out six Keota batters.
Ashton Galindo led Keota with two RBI on a single. Blake Baker hit two singles with an RBI.
Cardinal Slips Past NM
North Mahaska hosted Cardinal of Eldon Tuesday in a nonconference battle and lost in a tight 2-1 game. Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings. Cardinal took the lead with a run in the top of the fourth and North Mahaska answered with a run in the bottom of the same inning. The Comets plated another in the fifth and held NM scoreless the rest of the way.
North Mahaska outhit the Comets 5-3, all singles except for Nolan Andersen who hit a single and double. Jack Kelderman, Tyson Ferguson and Nate Sampson also singled.
Andersen took the loss allowing two runs on two hits and six walks. He struck out one. Dane Van Mersbergen and Carson Doak also pitched.
Quinn Snyder pitched the winner for Cardinal with a run on three hist. Cayden Courtney also pitched.
“Those were probably two of the best pitchers we’ve seen this year,” said NM coach Kevin Kelderman.
North Mahaska hosts Belle Plaine Friday.
