Unfortunately, due to the social distancing guidelines which are still in place, North Mahaska does not feel that we can provide a Prom in a manner which would be safe for all students and staff. Therefore, Prom 2020 has been cancelled.
This decision was not made lightly and current recommendations by the Governor’s office and the CDC were reviewed prior to determining our course of action. Although we are saddened that we cannot provide this event for students, we do feel that this course is best in order to maintain compliance with guidelines which have been set.
Neighboring school districts have had parent groups take on the planning, preparation, and consummation of a “social-distancing” promenade. If a group would desire to do something similar, it would be independent of the school. It has been communicated that the After-Prom Committee would like to plan something in place of the traditional prom. Any communication of these plans will come directly from that group of junior parents.
Again, this decision was one that we did not want to make. We wanted to wait as long as possible to still keep our options open. We felt that we could not wait any longer to make a decision one way or another.
Thank you so much for your patience and enjoy the rest of your summer!
