North Mahaska Community School’s number one priority is to provide a safe and supportive learning environment where students can thrive. We are committed to a safe school environment and have been collaboratively working with Mahaska County Law Enforcement, Mahaska County Emergency Management, and local law enforcement to increase safety and security.
New legislation (Senate file 2364) requires schools to have a high-quality emergency operations plan in place by June 30, 2019. Please know that North Mahaska Schools has an emergency plan in place for staff to follow. We will be reviewing our plan and making any changes necessary to comply with the new legislation. The new legislation does require our plan to include response to active shooter scenarios and natural disasters drills. School staff will be participating in the required drills in upcoming training before the end of the school year.
