BROOKLYN – North Mahaska placed five runners in the top 10 at BGM Sept. 21 to run away with the team cross country title. The boys scored 32 points to easily outdistance Montezuma in second with 82 and GMG in third with 141. North Mahaska girls ran well but did not have enough runners to compete as a team.
Lane Harmon took third to lead the Warhawks finishing the 5K distance in 19 minutes 6.59 seconds. Anthony Goemaat and Nate Sampson placed fifth and sixth respectively in 19:37.66 and 19:56. 04. Brayden Veiseth was eight in 21:15.85 and Grant Smith took 10th in 21:44.73. Andy Knockel finished 20th with a time of 24:20.14 but did not figure into the team score.
All four girls placed in the top 20 with Natalie LaRue leading the way in fourth place in 24:36. Addie Schilling placed 11th in 26:15, Claira Bacon was 19th in 29:42 and Kelsey Comstock was 20th in 30:36.
In the junior varsity boy’s race, North Mahaska’s Garrett Lamb placed sixth in 25:02 and Beau Simmons was 10th in 27:17.
NM’s junior high boys also had a strong afternoon. Asher DeBoef finished sixth in 10:17.67Ben Yang was ninth with a time of 10:35.77, Mitchell Kincaid 19th in 11:31.42; Larry Mohr, 34th in 15:16.88; and Bronson Edwards-Hinton, 38th in 16:56.97.
Allie Veiseth and Emmerson Jedlicka led the junior high girls placing second and third respectively. Veiseth finished in 11:43.18 and Jedlicka ran 11:47.56. Alu Steil was tight behind in fourth in 12:11.63 and Fallen Rivera was 30th in 19:04.23.
Very happy for the team. Did not feel it was necessary to single out one kid and say they did not figure into the team scoring, I think everyone contributes in some way on a team and that was embarrassing to him Thank you
