North Mahaska Junior High track teams competed at Montezuma on April 13. The girls placed second with 137 points and the boys third with 103. Montezuma won the girl’s meet with 188 points and Belle Plaine topped the boys with 145.5
The girls scored just one first place but notched eight runner-up spots and scored in seven events. Allie Veiseth and Emmerson Jedlicka went one-two in the 1,500 meters. Veiseth won the event in 6 minutes 20.27 seconds. Jedlicka took second in 6:25.93.
Veiseth and Aly Steil took second and third in the 800 meters in 3:03 and 3:09.56 respectively. The Warhawks added another two-three in the 200 hurdles. Brecklyn Schilling ran second on 34.98 and Kayla Readshaw was third in 36.93.
The girls racked up five runnerup spots in the relays. No names of runners were provided with the results. The girls took second in the 1600 (5:11.18), 3,200 (12:46.23), 410 Hurdles (1:30.44), sprint medley (2:26.57) and the distance medley 5:13.54.
North Mahaska boys had two seconds and four double scores. Ben Yang and Rylan Spray took second and seventh in the 800 meters in 2:41.01 and 3:00.11. The other second was in the 200 meter hurdles when Lucas Nunnikhoven ran 29.31.
Kayden Stout and Jack Kelderman placed fifth and sixth in the discus. Stout had a toss of 62-feet 7-inches and Kelderman threw 61-09. Nunnikhoven and Hunter Wernli were third and sixth in the long jump. Nunnikhoven had a leap of 15-8.25 and Wernli jumped 14-6.75
North Mahaska will compete at Pella Christian Thursday.
