More than five dozen boys from the South Iowa Cedar League gathered at Orchard Acres Golf Course near Grinnell Monday to compete for the title of SICL champion. Keota and English Valleys took the top two spots with just two strokes separating them. Keota won the meet with a 344 while EV finished with a 346. North Mahaska was fifth with a 366.

Cole Stephenson of English Valleys took top individual honors with a 4-over par 73. HLV’s Ethan Kupka was runnerup with a 74.
North Mahaska was paced by sophomore Nash Smith who fired an 85 and finished seventh overall. He was the only Warhawk in the top 10. Senior Blake Readshaw was 16th overall with a 91. Ethan Fogle carded a 93 and Brock Walkup shot 97. Dodge Duke (98) and Jayden Steil (107) also played but did not figure into the team score.

North Mahaska will host a sectional at 10 a.m. Friday, May 14 at Prairie Knolls Golf Course in New Sharon. Lynnville-Sully and Sigourney will also play in the sectional. Other SICL teams will play at sectionals at Belle Plaine, Winfield-Mt. Union and North English. Qualifiers from the sectional will advance to district play that will be held at Pleasant Valley in Iowa City on Thursday, May 20 at 9 a.m.
