North Mahaska senior Madison McKay helped her team on both sides of the softball Friday tossing a one-hitter and hitting a solo homerun as the Warhawks won 2-0. NM pounded out eight hits in the game and had 13 baserunners but left many on the bases.
Eighth grader Regan Grewe and freshman Colby Sampson each had two hits for the Warhawks. Junior Zoe Deucore hit a double and scored.
From the circle, McKay tossed the shutout with a hit, walk and 17 strikeouts.
Sophomore Addy Westfall’s double was the lone hit for English Valleys. Freshman Kennedy Axmear took the loss going six innings. She allowed two runs on four hits and two walks. She struck out four.
North Mahaska improves to 9-7 on the season while EV falls to 10-7. North Mahaska hosts Tri-County Monday, Colfax-Mingo on Wednesday and Lynnville-Sully on Friday. The Warhawks host a round-robin tourney Saturday with Cardinal Baxter coming to town.
EV travels to Colfax-Mingo on Monday, hosts Keota Wednesday then travels to Tri-County Friday.
