North Mahaska’s softball team will host the first two rounds of the Class 1A Region 5 softball tournament, which begins next week. With the exception of Baxter and Grand View Christian, the bracket is a South Iowa Cedar League tourney.
Play opens Tuesday, July 6 at 7 p.m. North Mahaska hosts Keota, English Valleys hosts Tri-County, Montezuma will host Iowa Valley to round out the top of the bracket.
Baxter goes to Belle Plaine and BGM hosts HLV. The BGM-HLV winner then goes to No. 9 Lynnville-Sully on Wednesday, July 7 while Grand View Christian hosts the Belle Plaine-Baxter winner.
Winners from North Mahaska-Keota, and Monte and Iowa Valley play at North Mahaska on July 7. The EV-Tri-County winner will go to No. 7 Sigourney on July 7. Those winners will play at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 9. The bracket winners will play at a site to be determined on Monday, July 12 for a spot in the state tournament, which begins July 19.
