Class 1A District 8 baseball action begins Saturday, July 10 when North Mahaska (15-5) travels to Sully to take on Melcher-Dallas (12-10). NM will play at 5 p.m. with the winner advancing to a second-round game, also at Sully on Tuesday, July 13. The North Mahaska-Melcher-Dallas winner will play the victor of Lynnville-Sully (16-9) and BGM (5-12), which play at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Those four teams make up the bottom of the bracket and will face the winner of the upper bracket in a district final at the James Cownie Sports Complex at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 17.
The upper bracket of District 8 features Montezuma (9-6) and Twin Cedars (12-8) followed by Ankeny Christian (22-1) against Grand View Christian. Those winners will play on July 13. Those games take place at Northview Park Field 1.
The winners will meet the victor from District 7 in a substate final with a state berth on the line. Teams in the bracket include No. 6 Don Bosco (17-4) versus Central City (0-16); North Tama (11-10) against Belle Plaine (8-13); Alburnett (18-8) versus Springville (3-16); and HLV (11-6) versus Iowa Valley (3-12).
