North Mahaska boy’s cross country team continued to impress, winning the South Iowa Cedar League meet in Montezuma Tuesday with 30 points to easily outdistance the field. English Valleys was second with 72 points. North Mahaska placed all five runners 4-8 to secure the title.
English Valleys’ Bryson Grove was the champion finishing in 17 Minutes 36.29 seconds. His teammate Gage Heyne ran third in 18:37.70. The next three runners were 20th and beyond.
North Mahaska’s Lane Harmon, a state qualifier from 2020, placed fourth in 18:57.05. Harmon was followed by Brayden Veiseth 19:20.73, Anthony Goemaat 19:22.80, Nate Sampson 19:27.95, and Asher DeBoef 19:28.24 to seal up the win. Also running for the Warhawks were Ben Yang 20:38.63, Andy Knockel 20:41.44, Kincaid Mitchell 21.41.82 and Garrett Lamb 23:10.55. Breckyn Shilling was the lone female runner for North Mahaska placing 30th in 29:49.31. Greenlee Smock of Lynnville-Sully won the meet in 21:36.57.
In the junior high girl’s meet, North Mahaska took the top three spots and had four in the top 10 enroute to the win. Aly Steil topped the field in 13:51.58 followed by Emmerson Jedlicka 14:29.82 and Nataliya Linder in 14:42.06. Allie Veiseth was sixth in 15:11.97 and Aly Mohr rounded out the scoring in 17th with a time of 17:18.05. Addison Falb was 19th in 17:56.49.
North Mahaska boys did not have enough for a team score. Maddox Wynja was seventh in 13:49.56 and Larry Mohr was 17th in 17:37.36.
