North Mahaska’s basketball teams remained unbeaten in South Iowa Cedar League play Friday with a sweep of HLV. The girls won 55-10 and the boys topped the Warriors 68-39.
In the girl’s contest, North Mahaska held HLV scoreless in the first half and led 44-0 at halftime. NM scored just two points in the third as reserves saw playing time. The Warhawks outscored HLV 11-10 in the second half.
North Mahaska, 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the league, shot 31.3 percent from the floor but limited the Warriors to just 18 percent. Layla Hargis led North Mahaska with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Breanna Fogle and Addie Schilling just missed double figures with each scoring nine points. Breckyn Schilling finished with seven and Samantha VanWeelden came off the bench to score six.
Kaydence DeMeulenere scored six for HLV.
The North Mahaska boys completed the sweep as they outrebounded HLV 45-29 and shot 45 percent from the floor to move to 2-0 on the season.
Nash Smith had an impressive line with 21 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and four assists. Lane Harmon scored 19 points with 11 rebounds with three assists and three steals. Braden Steel also hit double figures with 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
North Mahaska hosts BGM Tuesday and goes to rival Lynnville-Sully Friday.
