North Mahaska’s track teams travelled to Newton Thursday in one of its final tune-ups before the state track qualifier next week. The girls placed fourth out of eight teams while the boys ran sixth of seven. Newton won both ends of the co-ed meet.
In the girls’ division, Newton scored 205 to easily distance themselves from second place Colfax-Mingo with 121. Pleasantville scored 95 and North Mahaska had 84.
North Mahaska senior Addie Schilling had the lone victory with a jump of 4-feet 8-inches in the high jump. The Warhawks received a silver medal in the distance medley with Zoe Deucore, Hannah Wernli, Regan Grewe and Carlie Scholtus running the baton in 5 minutes 6.11 seconds.
Lexi Van Utrecht added a bronze medal in the 400 meters in 1:10.52. She also picked up fourth in the 200 in 30.67. She joined Scholtus, Schilling and Kayla Readshaw for a third I the 1,600-meter relay. The covered the distance in 4:49.44.
North Mahaska’s boys picked up three wins in the meet. Newton topped the team standings with 195 ahead of Lynnville-Sully with 105. The Warhawks accumulated 83.
Brayden Veiseth brought home the lone individual gold with a win the 1,600. He finished in 5:04.05. He also anchored the winning 3,200-meter relay along with Nate Sampson, Lane Harmon and Anthony Goemaat. The quartet finished in 8:54.10.
Sampson, Andy Knockel, Kaleb Stout and Sean Knockel won he distance medley in 3:56.53. Stout and the Knockel boys teamed with Ben Nunn to take second in the sprint medley in 1:39.21. Sean Knockel picked up a silver medal in the 200 meters in 22.96 and Goemaat earned third in the 800 with a time of 2:12.71. Stout, Harmon, Sampson and S. Knockel placed third in the final relay of the night covering the 1,600 meters in 3:51.9.
