North Mahaska’s softball team stepped up to host Class 4A Pella Tuesday in the regular season finale. The host Warhawks held a 1-0 lead entering the top of the sixth, but Pella scored three times to earn a 3-1 win over the Warhawks.
Pella’s Catrina Dixson drove in two runs with a single in the inning and Katie Scheckel singled in another run. Lily Hartwig walked in the bottom of the third inning and Zoe Deucore singled her home for North Mahaska’s lone run.
Pella outhit the Warhawks 10-4. Morgan Hudson hit two singles and Cali Sampson added another. Hudson took the loss giving up three earned runs on 10 hits and nine strikeouts.
For Pella, Ava Curry and Thea Wisse also each had a pair of hits, and Saige DeJong earned the victory in the circle, striking out five batters in seven innings. The Dutch softball team improves to 11-19 overall. North Mahaska finishes the regular season at 12-11. They host English Valleys in the opening round of the Region 8 tournament Friday night at 7 p.m.
