No. 9 in Class 1A North Mahaska battled No. 11 in Class 2A Pella Christian for the team title at the Lynnville-Sully cross country meet held at the Lynnville Golf Course Thursday. Pella Christian with 23 runners scored 39 points while North Mahaska placed second with 53 on the legs of nine runners.
Kaden Van Wyngarden was meet medalist covering the course in 17 minutes 25.7 seconds. Brayden Veiseth, Lane Harmon and Nate Sampson paced the North Mahaska effort taking 7th, 8th and ninth. Veiseth finished in 18:47.9 followed by Harmon 18:48.5 and Sampson 19:06.4.
Ben Yang came in 17th in 20:40.4 and Andy Knockel clocked a 21:33.9. Clay Thompson finished in 23:03/9, Kincaid Mitchell 23:11.4 and Larry Mohr 28:28.6.
Aly Steil placed sixth overall for North Mahaska in the girl’s race in 22:59.7. Twin Cedars’ Rylee Dunkin took the top spot in 20:58.2. Steil’s teammate Vanessa Murphy finished in 34:34.1
Maddox Wynja took sixth overall in the junior high boy’s race with a. time of 11:31.7. Cain Grandia finished in 14:48.8.
North Mahaska will run at Brooklyn Monday.
