Senior Vanessa Murphy went 3-0 Friday night to lead North Mahaska’s girls wrestling team at the BGM round robin. Jalayna Shipley finished 2-1.
Murphy opened with a 46 second pin of Baxter’s Jahlynna Epps-Bedolla then decisioned Pleasantville’s Maggie Gasparovich 7-0. In her final match Murphy took down BGM’s Greer Egerton in 1:56.
Shipley, also a senior, lost by decision to Taya Sincox of BGM, 7-4. She took just 39 seconds to pin Boone’s Lily Leininger. In her final match she pinned Macy Grove of Cardinal Community in 33 seconds to take second place.
North Mahaska’s other senior Libby Groom lost all three of her matches to place fourth. Mia Garvey of Mid-Prairie pinned Groom in 41 seconds. South Tama’s Autumn Elsbury pinned Groom in 1:06 and in the final match Pleasantville’s Madilyn Rowson won by fall in 1:27.
The girls return to action Saturday at Pekin.
