North Mahaska notched two more dual wins Thursday as the wrestling team prepared for Saturday’s South Iowa Cedar League meet at Colfax-Mingo. The Warhawks defeated Collins-Maxwell 66-12 and host Baxter 51-28.
All but one of the matches was settled by fall or forfeit. Nine North Mahaska wrestlers finished 2-0 on the night. One of the most dramatic wins came between Wyatt Van Weelden and Baxter’s Callyn Bishop at 170 pounds. Van Weelden earned a forfeit against C-M.
Against Collins-Maxwell, Ryan Groom won by pin over Zach Haus in 1 minute 35 seconds. Matt German added a pin at 120 over Isaac Brown at the end of the first period. At 160, Andy Knockel pinned Hunter Lee in 1:22 as NM led 36-6.
Joel DeJong, Charlie Goemaat, Hunter Wernli, Gage Reis, Max Reed, Jakob Clark and Trace Goemaat each earned forfeits against CM.
In the match with Baxter, DeJong pinned Alex Dille in 2:26 and German added a pin of Maddox Peters in 3:57 at 120. Reis pinned Anderson Jack at 145 in 2:50 leading up to Van Weelden’s win.
