North Mahaska Community Schools has been working with Mahaska County Emergency Management on a vulnerability assessment. One of the things highlighted from the study was the need to get information to students quickly, which has led to our work with Quick Access, a company that will be providing safety notifications to our 7-12 students, as well as staff. This app will need to be downloaded to each student’s cell phone, if possible. This will ensure that students will be able to get instant messaging in the event of an intruder or active shooter. The app is a third party app but it does NOT ask for personal information from students. To avoid this, there has been a district login created, which is the same for all students, that will be used in order to get the alerts on their phones. The app will sync to existing plans that have already been established by the district and are within the app.
