Sites and teams for boy’s golf and boys and girls track have been released by the states high school athletic associations. Prairie Knolls will be the site of the boys’ golf sectional on Wednesday, May 10 while the track teams will venture to BGM on Thursday, May 11.
North Mahaska will host seven teams at Prairie Knolls Country Club for golf sectional at 10 a.m. on May 10. Playing at the New Sharon site will be HLV, Keota, Moravia, Mormon Trail, Southeast Warren and Wayne of Corydon in addition to North Mahaska. The top two teams will advance to a district qualifier to be played at Crestwood Hills Golf Course in Anita on May 15. The top two individuals and ties from the non-qualifiers will also advance.
If North Mahaska finishes first or second, then the third place team will advance. The district will feature the winners of sectionals held at Lynnville, Sidney and Mount Ayr.
BGM once again hosts the Class 1A district with 14 schools participating. Besides BGM, entries include BCLUW, BGM, GMG, HLV, Lisbon, Lynnville-Sully, Melcher-Dallas, Meskwaki Settlement, Montezuma, Moravia, North Mahaska, Seymour, Tri-County and Twin Cedars.
The winner of each event automatically advances to the state meet to be held at Drake Stadium May 18-20. The rest of the field will be determined with the next 14 best times from the eight district meets to round the field of 24 competitors at state. Eight place scoring will be utilized to determine the team champion.
Field events will begin at 4:00 pm with running events slated to begin at 4:30 pm Statewide there will be a 45-minute break between the boys’ 3,200-meter relay and the girls’ shuttle hurdle relay. State qualifiers will be determined once all district meets are complete.
