North Mahaska’s softball team met Class 4A power Pella in the regular season finale Tuesday. The outcome was not what the Warhawks wanted as the hosts put up 11 runs to win 11-1.
Pella scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and added five more in the bottom of the third. North Mahaska’s Madeline Doonan opened the top of the fourth inning with a double. With one out, Doonan moved to third on Aly Steil’s fielder’s choice. Jocelyn Pinkerton flied out to left to score Doonan. It would be the only run the Warhawks could plate.
In the Pella half of the fifth, the Dutch opened with a triple from Kamryn Long and Ava Curry walked, all coming after a first out strikeout. Following an error, pinch-hitter Lauryn Doschadis singled to drive in the 11th run to end the game early.
Doonan had both hits for North Mahaska with a single and double. Pinkerton had the RBI.
North Mahaska, 12-12, will host Montezuma Friday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Class 1A Region 6 tournament.
