North Mahaska could not overcome cold shooting Monday night in a 41-32 loss to PCM in nonconference action. North Mahaska managed just 20 percent shooting from the field and 37.5 percent from the free throw line.
North Mahaska, 5-1, jumped out to a 9-4 lead to start the game. They maintained the lead until the final minute and a half. PCM hit a pair of baskets to cut the lead to 13-10. A basket and pair of free throws early in the second quarter gave PCM their first lead. The Mustangs led 18-15 when Breckyn Schilling drained a 3-pointer then hit another bucket after a turnover to put the Warhawks up 20-18. A free throw gave NM a 21-18 lead.
Two missed free throws and PCM’s Claire VanWyk hit a bucket with nine seconds left.
Neither team could produce much offense in the third quarter with PCM holding a 4-2 edge to take a 24-23 lead into the final quarter. Lila Milani drained a 3-pointer to put the Mustangs in control. NM would cut the lead to two points twice but could not gain an advantage.
North Mahaska went 3-for-8 in the fourth quarter. Addison Steenhoek hit two free throws for PCM for the final tally of the night.
Sydney Andersen led North Mahaska with 12 points and six rebounds. Breckyn Schilling scored 12 points with eight rebounds, four steals and four assists. Regan Grewe chipped in six points.
Milani led PCM’s scoring with nine points. Jorja Teeter led the Mustangs rebounding with 12. Tori Lindsay scored eight points and seven rebounds. Steenhoek scored eight points.
North Mahaska travels to Colfax-Mingo Tuesday then well host Moravia on Friday.
