There are very few things that will go right when you are a winless team and must play the 13th ranked team in Class 2A. Such was the plight of Colfax-Mingo Tuesday as they faced South Iowa Cedar League co-leader North Mahaska. North Mahaska held the Tigerhawks scoreless in the first and fourth quarters to win 73-9.
North Mahaska saw 13 of their 15 players score on the night. The host Warhawks forced 28 turnovers while committing just six of their own.
North Mahaska scored a third their points off eight 3-pointers. Regan Grewe led NM scoring with 13 points and Peyton Sanders added 12. Sydney Andersen was also in double figures with 10. Kayla Readshaw had impressive line with eight points, five rebounds and six assists. Nataliya Linder also scored eight points with three assists and three steals. Samantha Van Weelden chipped in six points.
Colfax-Mingo freshman Brooklyn Yanske scored three points. Another freshman Dakota Allen scored two with two rebounds and two assists.
North Mahaska 13-3, outrebounded the Tigerhawks 26-8 and recorded 24 steals to four C-M.
North Mahaska (14-3, 11-2) will travel to North English Thursday for a makeup conference contest before playing a pair of nonconference games next week. NM will face fifth-ranked Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Monday, a team they likely will face in the Class 2A tourney. Next Tuesday the Warhawks go to Oskaloosa for another nonconference game before the tourney begins on Feb. 13.
