North Mahaska’s junior high tracksters finally got to perform when they hosted their co-ed meet April 5. In the team race North Mahaska girls were furth with 72 points. The boys placed seventh with 48 points. Pella Christian took the team titles in both with 97 and 142 points respectively.
The girls’ distance medley team took the team’s lone first place in 5 minutes 3.72 seconds. No runners were listed in the results for any of the relays. A second place was earned by the 800 meter relay team in 2:11.10.
The girls scored big with third place finishes garnering seven. Mallory Anderson was third in the shot with a put of 24-feet. Anderson also took third in the discus with a throw of 63-1. Teammate Isabella Patterson placed fifth in the event at 58-0.
Shuttle hurdle team was third in 1:26.45 and Jade DeBoef ran third in the 100 meters in 14.82. She duplicated her effort in the 1,500 meters in 6:06.36. The final two thirds came in the sprint medley and 1,600-meter relays. The sprint med team finished in 2:16.23 while the 1600 team ran 5:06.91.
Emme Ross and Sykora Spray doubled in the 200 meters. Ross covered the distance in 31.42 for fourth and Spray was sixth in 32.10. The 3,200 meter team ran sixth in 13:38.24. Spray placed seventh in the 400 meters in 1:13.01. The lone eighth place finish came in the 800 with Aspen Harmon running in 3:19.47.
Competing for the girls but not placing were, Sara Van Donselaar in the long jump at 11-8.5; Patterson in the shot with a throw of 19-8.5 and Jaylah Perez 16-8.
Molly Jones and Perez ran the 100 in 15.93 and 16.41 respectively. Jaiden Dickey competed in the 400 meters in 1:22.42. Mallory Schippers ran the 1,500 in 8:09.02. In the 100 hurdles, Macy Phillips finished in 21.87 and Phoenix Jones in 22.57.
Lily Briggs and Van Donselaar ran the 200 hurdles in 36.74 and 39.74 respectively.
The boys team finished with two seconds, two thirds, to fourths and two fifths to pace their finish. They had one double placement. Isaiah Boonstra was second in the 800 meters in 2:32.94 and Cain Grandia was eighth in 3:05.55. The other second came in the final race of the night, the 1,600-meter relay in 4:19.43.
The distance medley team finished third in 4:50.04 and the 800 team in 1:53.21.
Dawson Goemaat captured fourth in the 100 meters in 13.25.Zach Veiseth was fourth in the 400 meters in 1:04.69.Jackson Doak ran fifth in the 200 hurdles in 31.73 and the sprint medley team was fifth in 2:11.61.
Logan Van Zee was seventh in the 100 hurdles in 18.02.
Other boys competing but not placing were, Goemaat in the high jump at 4-6; Doak and Veiseth in the ling jump with leaps of 14-8.5 and 13-9.5 respectively. Paxton DeJong threw the shot 20-9. Wyatt Shutts and Gabriel Bunn were in the discus with throws of 66-1 for Shutts and 62-0 for Bunn. Cain Grandia ran the 1,600 in 6:40.98. The 400 relay team finished in 1:03.02.
The junior high teams are scheduled to run again on April 15 at Iowa Valley.
