North Mahaska’s softball team doubled up the hits on Iowa Valley Friday to capture a 10-4 South Iowa Cedar League win. NM pounded out 10 runs on 10 hits while allowing the host Tigers to four runs on five hits.
The game was even at 4-4 at the end of regulation. North Mahaska exploded for six runs in the top of the eighth then held the Tigers in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory.
Regan Grewe and Cali Sampson had the big bats for the Warhawks. Grewe recorded another homerun to drive in three runs and Cali Sampson hit her first of the season. Kaylia Shipman hit a double with two RBI and Olivia Ridgeway added a single and triple to drive in a run. She also stole three bases. Kayla Readshaw rapped a pair of singles and stole two bases.
Freshman hurler Jocelyn Pinkerton relied on her team’s defense to earn the win. She gave up four runs on five hits and struck out four batters.
The Warhawks host Keota and Grand View Christian in a rare SICL and nonconference doubleheader on Monday night.
