Grand View Christian rallied from a 6-1 deficit to score a 17-6 win over North Mahaska in nonconference play. It was the second game of the night for the host Warhawks, as they also hosted Keota for a 11-1 win.
North Mahaska overcame a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the first inning plating three runs and adding three more in the second inning but managed just three runners to second base and only one to third the rest of the way.
GVC tied the game with a five-run third inning and added three in the fourth, one in the fifth and wrapped it up with seven in the sixth.
The Thunder pounded out 16 hits and took advantage of five North Mahaska errors.
“We made too many mistakes,” said NM coach Mark Schroeder. “This team is different than Keota and it was some of our experienced players making mistakes.”
GVC’s Grace Kruse his two singles and two doubles to drive in two runs and MAIA Murphy had four singles with three RBI.
North Mahaska did get the bat on the ball for 10 hits, six of those in the first two innings. Olivia Ridgeway hit a double and two singles. Regan Grewe and Kaylia Shipman each hit triples. Grewe added a single and double to drive in three runs.
Grewe was credited with the pitching loss. Jocelyn Pinkerton opened the game going two innings allowing six runs on six hits with a walk and strikeout. Grewe tossed the next two frames giving up four runs on two hits, two walks and a strikeout. Pinkerton threw another inning giving up three runs on three hits and Ridgeway finished the game.
North Mahaska will host Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m.
