North Mahaska did not have a slow start at the plate, but it took three innings before they could score against visiting Pekin Wednesday. Once the onslaught began it did not stop en route to an 11-0 victory.
The teams were scoreless through the first two innings. NM took over in the bottom of the third inning scoring five runs then added three in the fourth and fifth to end the game early. Kaylia Shipman ripped a pair of doubles to drive in two runs and Lydia Howell had a double with three RBI. Regan Grewe tripled to bring in two runs. It was Shipman’s fifth inning double to score Olivia Ridgeway and Madeline Doonan to end the game.
Jocelyn Pinkerton, who faced just 17 batters, earned the win for North Mahaska as she gave up two hits over five innings, striking out three. Addison Smith led things off in the circle for Pekin. She took the loss as she allowed five hits and five runs over three innings, striking out two and walking seven.
North Mahaska collected 11 walks for the game to set up scoring opportunities. Doonan and Kayla Readshaw led the team with three free passes each. Doonan stole three bases.
Carlie Gambell led Pekin with a single and a double.
North Mahaska hosts Moravia on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
