North Mahaska hosted Twin Cedars Thursday in a nonconference baseball game but had trouble with control. The Warhawks issued 13 free passes and a hit batsman in a 10-7 loss.
A solid defensive play in the first inning kept TC from scoring after a walk. Leadoff hitter Braxton Davis walked and moved around to third but when he tried to score Nolan Andersen’s pinpoint throw home to Ryan Groom cur down the run.
Three walks, a double and two singles in the top of the second inning saw North Mahaska down 5-0. Twin Cedars added two more in the third on three walks and an error. North Mahaska got on the board in the third when Carson Doak walked and came home on Nate Sampson’s one-out single. Twin Cedars would score in each of the following inning except the seventh.
Three Saber errors and a Nolan Andersen single added two more to the NM total in the fourth. They added two in the fifth and another in the sixth but could get no closer.
Both teams left multiple runners on base. Twin Cedars stranded 13 while North Mahaska left 10.
Sampson, Doak, Jaxon Vander Veer and Rylan Spray pitched for the Warhawks. They combined for 10 runs on seven hits, 13 walks and five strikeouts.
Dane Van Mersbergen and Andersen each had two hits for North Mahaska. Sampson, Hunter Wernli and Jack Kelderman each singled.
North Mahaska hosts Belle Plaine Friday.
