North Mahaska’s varsity cross country teams hit the trail Thursday at Wildwood Park in Ottumwa at the Pekin Invitational. Both the girls and boys placed seventh at the meet. Emmerson Jedlicka and Ben Yang passed the teams respectively.
Jedlicka was chasing one of the best in the state in Chloe Glosser from Pekin, who ran away from the field in 20 minutes 2.69 seconds. Jedlicka was fourth in 22:05.41 while teammate Ava Huffman also finished in the top 10 placing eighth in 22:45.38.
There were 76 runners in the meet and four other Warhawks placed 59-6 led by Alivia Schock (30:11.44); Amber Knockel (30:11.51); Abby Van Weelden (30:17.93); and Breckyn Schilling (30:18.13).
The boys were a runner short as Jeb Goemaat is nursing an injury but battled to seventh with 110 runners competing. Lincoln Bainbridge of Van Buren won the meet in 17:10.15. Yang was 21st in 20:09.96 and Axl Patterson placed 34th in 21:12.53. Kincaid Mitchell was 48th in 22:09.7; Maddox Wynja was 52nd in 22:21.76, and Cain Grandia finished 76th in 24:21.05.

“We had a couple top 10s, and the boys had a really nice pack going we love to see that,” said coach Roman Meyers. “I’m really excited for the year. We missed out on a lot of practices to the heat, which put us behind the times, but we are going to do wonderful things this year.”
The teams will run Tuesday at Sigourney Golf and Country Club and at Colfax-Mingo Thursday.
