Juniors Emmerson Jedlicka and Ava Huffman finished fourth and fifth respectively as North Mahaska earned third place at the English Valleys Invitational cross country meet Tuesday. North Mahaska boys finished sixth.
The entire girls’ field was chasing Hillcrest Academy’s Marie Yoder, who won in 20 minutes 57.10 seconds. Jedlicka posted a time of 22:22.30 with Huffman just behind in 22:36.60. Alivia Schock placed 22nd in 27:27.7. Amber Knockel (30:33.40), Abby Van Weelden (30:35.70) and Breckyn Schilling (30:36.30) placed 31st to 33rd.
English Valleys won the girl’s race with 32 points. Hillcrest had 50, North Mahaska 64 and Lone Tree 76.
North Mahaska was a runner short with the absence of senior Ben Yang. Maddox Wynja and Axl Patterson led the Warhawk charge placing 16th and 17th overall. English Valleys’ Gage Heyne won the meet in 17:29.50. Wynja finished in 21:01.30 and Patterson ran 21:04.9. Senior Kincaid Mitchell came in 26th in 22:48.9; Jeb Goemaat was 41st in 24:13.36; and Cain Grandia 45th in 24:32.70.
Durant was the team champ with 59 points with host English Valleys second with 80. WACO was third 94, Hillcrest Academy 96, HLV 108, North Mahaska 114, 7. Belle Plaine 160, and 8. Iowa Valley 165.
Warhawk eighth grader Jade DeBoef continued her strong season with a third place finish in 14:05.30. She has finished in the top 10 in every race this season. Addelynn Jedlicka ran 21st in 19:03.50 and Jlynn Patterson was 32nd in 23:11.50.
North Mahaska will hit the trail again Thursday at Lynnville Golf Course.
