North Mahaska’s girls’ wrestling team picked up a first place and four seconds at the South Iowa Cedar League tournament. All eight girls placed to help the Warhawks to a tie for second in the team race. Macie Little continued her dominance with a title.
Colfax-Mingo ran away with the team title scoring 173 points North Mahaska and BGM ties with 100. Sigourney-Keota was fourth 84.5, 5. Iowa Valley 83, 6. English Valleys 50, 7. Tri-County 27.
Little (42-2) was crowned champion for the second time in two days. She won at I-35 Saturday then backed it upon Monday at the SICL championships winning all five bouts by pin. Addy Covington of Colfax-Mingo went down in 1 minute 3 seconds. Little set a school record for a pin in the second round pinning BGM’s Calyn Egerton in seven seconds.
In round three, Little pinned Lyla Smothers of English Valleys in 1:03. Then took down Allie Blankenship in 18 seconds. In the final bout Skyler Hoyt of Iowa Valley fell in 3:09.
Addison Terpstra (24-13) earned second at 100 pounds. She pinned Emily Sieren of English Valleys in 2:43. She had a bye in second round then lost to Colfax-Mingo in the third round in 1:23.
Madison Davis (13-26) was second at 105. She opened with a pin of Gracen MacCready of Tri-County in 2:37. Following a bye Davis pinned Iowa Valley’s Morgan Ipsen in 1:55. In the fourth round, Davis was pinned by Allison Minteer of Colfax-Mingo in 48 seconds. Davis pinned Izzy McCullough of Sigourney-Keota in 5:04.
Kaylia Shipman (35-11) earned the runnerup spot for the second time in as many meets. She pinned Kennedy Thiessen of Iowa Valley at 115 pounds in 2:29. Following a bye she met Sigourney’s Reanah Utterback (48-0) and was pinned in 2:46.
At 145, Kieren Perez (20-18) pinned her way into the title bout. She pinned Colfax-Mingo’s Brooklyn Audas in 24 seconds. She took down BGM’s Greer Egerton in 1:10. Hadley Millang of Colfax-Mingo pinned her in 26 seconds.
Moriah Stout (5-12) went 1-1 at 155. She lost in the opening round to Alauna Wells of Colfax-Mingo in 1:06. Stout won a 6-4 decision over Sigourney’s Karley Greiner. She had a bye in the final round.
Ruby Wallerich (8-21) captured third at 120 pounds. There were just three at her weight class. Lilly Briggs (22-19) lost all three of her matches to take fourth at 110 pounds.
North Mahaska will head to Leon Central Decatur Friday for the Class 1A state qualifier. Mat time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
