North Mahaska received a taste of what the competition will be at this week’s state qualifying meet. The girls saw wrestlers from six of the 21 schools who will be in Leon Friday. Macie Little and Kaylia Shipman placed first and second at their respective weight classes.

Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont won the meet over Carlisle 256-218.5. Woodward-Granger scored 176, followed by Cardinal 89, Panorama 76 and North Mahaska and West Central Valley with 68.

Little, 35-2, had a bye in the 125-pound opener then pinned I-35’s Morgan Dickinson in 54 seconds. She pinned EBF’s Adison Glosser in 24 seconds in the semifinals. She met Treynor’s Andyn White and won on injury time to top the podium.

Shipman took 28 seconds to pin Panorama’s Emma Brown at 115 pounds. Bryanna Pena-Rivera of West central Valley was a pin victim in1:21. She pinned Gretchen Wearmouth of Martensdale-St. Marys in 4:30 to reach the championship bout. In the finals, Kate Krause of EBF pinned Shipman in 1:14.

Kieren Perez went 1-1 in contested matches at 145. Six girls competed. Perez lost to Carlisle’s Elizabeth Peters on a technical fall 15-0. In the fifth place match, Perez pinned Avery Countryman of Cardinal in 2:36.

Madison Davis was winless on the day and placed sixth at 105. She lost to Marin Stutsman of Carlisle in the quarterfinals. In the fifth place match, Malery McFarland of Cardinal won a 14-8 decision.

The girls will compete at the state qualifier Friday night at Leon Central Decatur. EBF, West Central Valley, Mount Ayr, Martensdale-St. Marys, Centerville and East Union all competed with NM at I-35. They will be among the 21 teams hoping to send wrestlers to the state tournament in Coralville.
