North Mahaska and English Valleys met on the best day of golf this season and came away with wins for both the Warhawk boys and girls. The teams teed off under sunlit skies with the North Mahaska boys winning 178-213 and the girls winning 211-230.

Despite the rain on Sunday, the greens proved to be quick and somewhat challenging, but the Warhawks were up to the challenge.

Aly Steil and Elise Westercamp led the Warhawks and were medalists. Steil shot a 49 and Westercamp carded a 50. Breckyn Schilling and Lacey Campbell finished with 53s.Addison Ver Beek shot a 73 but did not figure into the team scoring.

All four of North Mahaska’s boys shot in the 40s on their way to victory. Jaxon Van Dr Veer led with a 43 while Jack Kelderman and Hunter Wernli each shot 44s. Travis Castaneda finished with a 47. Playing but not scoring was Cooper Sampson with a 50 and Lucas Nunnikhoven with a 53.

“It was a great day to play,” said NM coach Al Hodgeman. “I am impressed with how much we’ve grown from last year. Really happy the way they are coming along.”

The Warhawks have a busy week with four matches this week. They travel to Lynnville on Tuesday, host HLV on Thursday then go to Belle Plaine Friday.

“We have a very busy week so we will find out what kind of team we have,” said Hodgeman.
