North Mahaska’s girl’s golf team battled seven teams and a consistent wind from 25-40 mile per hour Friday but managed to advance to the second round of regionals. North Mahaska carded a 396 to finish second to Martensdale St-Marys with a 348. They will host the second round on Wednesday at Prairie Knolls.

“We played through a lot of adversity today,” said NM coach Al Hodgeman. “We got some great play when we needed it. Jocelyn (Pinkerton) had a great round and Lacey (Campbell) and Elise’s (Westercamp) 105 was the difference.”

Pinkerton led the Warhawks with a 92 and Aly Steil carded a 94. Westercamp and Campbell’s scores rounded out the scoring. Addison VanderBeek shot a 121 and Avary Westercamp shot a 128. Westercamp filled in for senior Breckyn Schilling, who was attending senior awards and graduation rehearsal.

Jocelyn Pinkerton takes a shot during competition. She led North Mahaska to the regional final with a 92. They play in New Sharon on Wednesday.

Pinkerton placed sixth overall and would have advanced without the team. In each regional, the top two teams and top six players advance. The same will be for Wednesday’s regional final.

Teams competing Wednesday include two teams and the top six individuals from regionals at Sigourney and Winthrop. Martensdale-St. Mary’s, North Mahaska, Highland, BGM, East Buchanan and North Tama.

Tee-off will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Team scores: 1. Martensdale-St. Marys 348; 2. North Mahaska 396; 3. Colfax-Mingo 403; 4, Southeast Warren 408; 5. Baxter 432; 6. Lynnville-Sully 440.
