North Mahaska joined seven other teams in one last run, jump and throw prior to Thursday’s state track qualifier. Four of those teams will compete again each other at Lynnville-Sully, the site of the last chance meet.
North Mahaska girls placed third behind Lynnville-Sully (133) and Pekin (118) with 103 points. The boys placed seventh with 41 points. Lynnville-Sully won the boys meet with 164 points with Pekin in second with 143.5.
Colfax-Mingo, GMG, Lynnville-Sully and North Mahaska will be among the 14 teams competing on Thursday.
It was a record-setting night as several meet records fell. North Mahaska nabbed three of them and although placed second, Kieren Perez also broke the meet record in two events.
Nataliya Linder smashed the meet record in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 2.5 inches, breaking Claire Roth’s mark of 15-10.5 set in 2023. She added another in the 400-meter hurdles winning in 1 minute, 9.69 seconds topping Avery Major’s 2023 time of 1:10.32.
Linder was also part of the winning 400-meter relay, which set a meet record. Addison Terpstra, Linder, Ridgeway and Perez finished in 52.32. They set the mark by .01 of a second set by Lynnville-Sully in 52.33.
Another NM victory came on the legs of Emmerson Jedlicka in the 1,500 meters in 5:31.07.
Perez ran second in the 100 meters to Tatum Huyser of Lynnville-Sully in 13.12. Huyser ran 12.8, but both broke Reagan McFarland’s time of 13.57 in 2022. Cora Talbert of East Marshall won the 100 hurdles in 16.53 and Perez ran 16.82. Both girls topped Carly Underwood’s mark of 17.01.
Ava Huffman, Amber Knockel, Abby Van Weelden and Allie Veiseth placed second in the 3,200- meter relay in 11:04.72. Terpstra and Perez teamed with Alivia Schock and Macie Little for a third place run in the sprint medley in 2:03.94.
The Warhawks tallied four fourth place finishes including Jayden Hiner’s leap in the high jump at 4-8. Ava Huffman was fourth in he 800 in 2:38.18. Olivia Ridgeway. Schock, Little and Knockel ran the 800-meter relay in 2:00.26 while Knockel, Allie Veiseth, Van Weelden and Schock covered the 1,600-meter relay in 4:41.85.
Falynn Rivera added a fifth in the 100 in 15.35. Lilly Briggs ran the 400 in 1:11.79 and Ruby Wallerich was fifth in the 200 in 32.01. Briggs was sixth in the 200 in 33.03.
For the boys, Axl Patterson was second in the 3,200 in 11:45.45 and garnered fifth in the 1,600 in 5:15.91. Tyson Ferguson had a third place in the 400 hurdles in 59.62 and joined Charlie Goemaat, Jackson Doak and Max Reed for a sixth place in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:09.37. Ferguson placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 17-2.25.
Nolan Schock dashed his way to fourth in the 200 in 25.26. C. Goemaat, Jeb Goemaat, William Cox and Doak placed fourth in the 1,600-meter relay in 3:50.67.
