North Mahaska’s Maddie Doonan raps a double to help the Warhawks to a 5-3 win over Keota.
North Mahaska built a five-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Keota’s charge in the top of the seventh inning for a 5-3 victory on Wednesday. Keota scored three runs on a home run in the seventh inning.
North Mahaska got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a Maddie Doonan single and Kaylia Shipman reached on a Keota error. Regan Grewe doubled down the left field line, each scoring two runs. They added a run in the third after Doonan doubled and went to third on a pass ball. She scored after tagging up on Grewe’s flyout.
In the bottom of the fourth Kayla Readshaw singled, stole two bases and scored on Addie Falb’s groundout. Olivia Ridgeway’s triple in the fifth and scored on Shipman’s groundout.
North Mahaska seemingly had things in control needing three outs to end the game. Keota’s Addison Purkeypile walked, and Karley Grimm reached on an error. Elyse Lyle homered to center field, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh. Alianna Swanson singled and was thrown out on a fielder’s choice. A groundout ended the game.
Grewe earned the win for North Mahaska. She gave up eight hits and three runs, two earned, over seven innings, striking out five and walking three.
Jessalynn Aller took the loss for Keota allowing five runs on six hits and four strikeouts. Purkypile tossed the final inning walking one batter.
Doonan hit a single and a double and Grewe drove in two runs with a double. Ridgeway tripled and Shipman singled with an RBI.
North Mahaska improves to 15-2 on the season and will travel to Lynnville-Sully for their next game on Thursday. They return home Friday to host HLV/Tri-County.
