North Mahaska’ baseball team will host the opening round of the Class 1A District 11 baseball tournament on Saturday, July 5. The Warhawks will play Mormon Trail at 7 p.m. following a contest between Twin Cedars and Moulton-Udell at 5 p.m.
North Mahaska, 8-6, is the No. 2 seed in the bracket. The winners of the North Mahaska games will play on Tuesday at the site of the highest seed. Top seed is No. 8 Lynnville-Sully, who drew a bye for the first round. They will play the winner of Wayne and Seymour in the district semifinal on July 8.
North Mahaska and Lynnville-Sully met in last year’s district final at Sully, which was won by the Hawks, 3-0.
Baxter is the top seed in the bottom half of the substate bracket. They host Colfax-Mingo in the opening round of the District 12 tournament. The winner will face either Collins-Maxwell or Colo-Nesco. Ankeny Christian faces Mecher-Dallas and Southeast Warren meets Madrid in the other half of the bracket.
North Mahaska coach Kevin Kelderman said he felt good about the draw. He felt the Warhawks would have to face either South Iowa Cedar League foes Lynnville-Sully or Sigourney, both of whom are ranked currently.
