Kaylia Shipman, Lydia Howell and Regan Grewe each hit a homerun and drove in all seven North Mahaska runs in a 7-2 victory over Colfax-Mingo. The game originally scheduled for New Sharon, was moved to Colfax where the Warhawks hosted the Tigerhawks on their own field.
Colfax-Mingo opened the scoring in the first after Brianna Freeksen walked and stole second. Kinley Johannes grounded out, scoring Freeksen from second.
North Mahaska took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Maddie Doonan reached on an error. Grewe, who collected four hits in four at bats, drilled a two-run homer to left field. NM added another tally in the bottom of the third inning when Doonan singled and Grewe singled to score Doonan again.
Callie Rathje singled and stole second. She went to third on a passed ball. Freerksen singled to close the game to 3-2 in favor of the Warhawks.
North Mahaska scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a homerun to left field by Lydia Howell. Grewe had doubled before Howell powered her ball over the left field fence.
In the bottom of the sixth Doonan doubled, and Shipman delivered a blow over the left field fence.
Jolan Fogle earned the win for North Mahaska. She allowed two hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking three. Brooklyn Yanske took the loss for Colfax-Mingo. She allowed seven runs on 11 hits, with five strikeouts and a walk.
Freerksen and Rathje each collected one hit for Colfax-Mingo.
North Mahaska improvs to 18-3 on the season and 13-2 in South Iowa cedar League play, one game behind leader Sigourney. They play a nonconference tilt at Grand View Christian Thursday then wraps up conference play at BGM Monday.
