Maddie Doonan collected three hits in five at bats, as North Mahaska defeated BGM 11-4 on Monday. The victory solidified second place in the South Iowa Cedar League standings. Sigourney was conference champion with a 15-1 record.

Doonan singled in the third, fourth and seventh innings to drive in two runs. Lydia Howell, batting from the fifth slot, drove in three runs for the Warhawks.

A single by Emersyn Minnehart put BGM on the board in the bottom of the first. The Bears added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Ana Coleman singled to left field, and Aiden Corona grounded out to each drive in a run.

North Mahaska closed the gap with two runs in the top of the third inning, then took the lead with a five-run fourth. In the third, Olivia Ridgeway walked with one out and scored on a Doonan single and scored on Kaylia Shipman’s groundout. NM was looking to blow the game wide open but left the bases loaded.

Kylie Van Weelden walked to lead off the fourth inning. Bailee Bandstra ran for Van Weelden and advanced to second on a groundout and third on a pass ball. Ridgeway walked and Doonan singled to score Bandstra. Ridgeway stole home for a score. With Doonan and Shipman on base, Regan Grewe doubled scoring both runners.

Grewe earned the win for North Mahaska. She gave up two hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking two.

Cara Arment led things off in the circle for BGM. She yielded five hits and seven runs over three and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three. Sophie Petsche went three and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on three hits, striking out two and walking none.

Howell provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led North Mahaska with three runs batted in. Grewe collected two hits for North Mahaska. The Warhawks stole nine bases in the game.

Coleman and Minnehart each collected one hit for BGM. Coleman, Arment, and Corona each drove in one run for BGM.

Next up for North Mahaska (19-3, 14-2) is a game at Pella Christian tonight. They close the regular season Wednesday hosting Pleasantville.
